Congratulations to NWPE member, Linda Buczynski, K-5 visual arts teacher at Sage International School of Boise.  Ms. Buczynski was awarded a $500 Teacher Scholarship on Friday, October 28, by NWPE Regional Director Brenda Miller to attend and present at the National Art Education Association (NAEA) Conference in New York City this spring.

Ms. Buczynski has been a visual arts professional artist and arts advocate for over 14 years as a teacher as well as through facilitating community arts projects, after school programs and K-12 and college studio workshops.  She currently owns and operates a private visual arts studio serving all ages in visual arts, holistic teaching, and art therapy genres.

An award-winning arts professional and community member, Ms Buczynski has been recognized as the Wassmuth Human Rights Center of Idaho, Human Rights Teacher of the Year 2016; the Idaho Art Education Association, Art Teacher of the Year (university and elementary levels); and Idaho Art Education Association, Art Teacher of the Year (elementary).  She has also received the International Medal of Honor from the  Lidice’ International Children’s Art Exhibition which was established in 1967 to commemorate the child victims from the Czech village of Lidice murdered by German Nazis, as well as all other children who have died in wars.

Ms. Buczynski describes her position at Sage International as having three roles, namely, Artist/Researcher/Teacher (A/R/T).  She notes that A/R/T professionals “dedicate, model and nurture our students. We produce our own artwork. We maintain academic achievement by presenting, publishing, and sharing narratives. It is an ongoing journey for us all.”

Her professional goals for the conference include networking with other schools to form support for her department, which has grown to sustaining over one thousand students at elementary, middle school and high school levels and attendance at myriad classes presented for K-5 classroom techniques and resources.  In addition, the conference will augment her efforts to develop a complete Scope and Sequence through research and input from like-minded educators.

The students at Sage will benefit from Ms. Buczynski’s new knowledge and experiences acquired by her attendance at the conference.“My school has an international focus, and IB popularity is growing in the NAEA population. I want to be in the forefront of that movement. . . (NAEA) conferences empower and inspire us at the highest level, as we continue our work in our communities, closer to home.”

Is Ms. Buczynski excited about this grant from NWPE?  “WOOOOOOT!  THANK YOU, for the honor of this award! I will represent Sage International School, Boise State University, and NWPE to my very best abilities!”

“I am Artist. Researcher.  Teacher.  Hear me ROAR from the Big Apple!”
