April is School Library Month!

This April is School Library Month, a month long celebration of the essential role of school libraries in students' learning created by the American Association of School Librarians (AASL). The 2013 theme is "Communities Matter @ Your Library," emphasizing how libraries can help students, individuals, and families discover new and exciting things through library collections, digital resources, and more.

Throughout April the AASL offers free event guides, resources, and ideas for teachers and students to celebrate their school library. For example, the AASL just announced a series of 20-minute webinars presented by the AASL Advocacy Committee in conjunction with School Library Month. Webinars include, Quantity vs. Quality, A Space vs. A LEARNING Space, and Strong School Library Programs Build Strong Communities, you can find all of the webinars on our professional development calendar.

Additionally, specific days throughout National Library Week, April 14 – 20th, celebrate certain aspects of libraries. These include:

· Monday, April 15th, the release of the 2013 State of America's Libraries Report.
· Tuesday April 16th, National Library Workers Day
· Wednesday, April 17th, National Bookmobile Day
· Thursday, April 18th, Celebrate Teen Literature Day

Take this opportunity to promote reading and literature in your classroom!
