Ms. Annette Lutes, an NWPE member and 8-12th grade special education teacher at Black Canyon High School, has been awarded a $200 classroom grant from Northwest Professional Educators.  Mrs. Brenda Miller, an NWPE representative, presented the grant at a school staff meeting.  The grant will be used to help fund an iPad be used with a student who needs it for a communication device.  Annette stated that the technology will be shared through integrated activities that include general education students and special education students within a collaborative teaching setting.

A fairly recent member of Northwest Professional Educators, Annette believes that having an alternative choice for a professional organization has benefits her by making it more affordable.  Additionally, “Having a choice as a teacher makes me feel like I have some control of my professional decisions. . . I joined NWPE because there’s were more reasonable rates for membership.  As a special education teacher, I feel the need to have liability coverage that is affordable to me in these lean times.”

Northwest Professional Educators is happy to provide this grant to Annette to enhance her students’ learning.  We're is proud to reward educators for their hard work and creativity in the classroom.  The award is certainly well-deserved as Annette seeks ways to increase student achievement.

Thanks, Annette, for all you do for your students!
