karen lyle brenda miller 4-2016Ms. Lyle has been piloting an online reading program called Reading Plus in her fourth grade classroom.  Reading Plus offered her a $400 scholarship to attend the Ron Clark Academy (RCA) in Atlanta, Georgia, for teacher training. NWPE awarded Ms. Lyle a $500 Teacher Scholarship to assist with expenses which made it possible for her to attend.

Ms. Lyle has been using Ron Clark's Essential 55 for many years.  At the Academy, she participated in classroom observations and experiences with RCA staff and students, She also attended several workshops that included topics such as:

• Strategies for effective classroom discipline
• Integrating music into the classroom
• Increasing student engagement through higher order questioning
• Teaching creatively while achieving high standardized tests
• Implementing games that promote student engagement
• Promoting academic rigor while meeting the needs of all learners
• Creating a climate and culture that promotes student success

Davenport can expect Ms. Lyle to share strategies to increase school culture, rigor, and student engagement that can be applied to any subject and grade level.   “Attending the Ron Clark Academy is the chance of a lifetime. I will bring back skills, strategies and enthusiasm for my students and school.”

Growing as a professional is important to Ms. Lyle.  “The best way that we as educators can show that we are raising our professionalism is to keep growing and learning, to keep seeking new ways to be the best educators possible, and to show that we are changing with the needs of our students. I’ve been teaching for over 30 years and this has been a constant goal of mine.”

Congratulations again to Ms. Lyle, a true education professional!
