In addition to supporting teachers in myriad educational settings, NWPE and AAE advocate for teacher choice and oppose laws that compel teachers to pay union dues for those who do not wish to join a union.  Both Washington and Oregon require compulsory dues as a condition of school employment.  Idaho is a right to work state (voluntary payment of dues and membership), but it gives the teacher union control over nonunion teacher contracts.

At least for the time being (Washington State's Charter School Law Faces Another Lawsuit), Washington, Idaho, and Oregon all support school choice through provision of public charter schools.  Join us as we celebrate the freedom and excellence that choice provides.

Idaho's Capitol Day Celebration will be on Monday January 23.  NWPE will be there along with other school choice partners in Idaho who will be taking over the first floor rotunda at the Idaho State Capitol Building.  The day will kick off with a breakfast celebration.  School choice information will be shared all day.  We encourage teachers, school leaders and students to talk with legislators, policymakers, and Capitol building visitors about the role school choice has played in their educational lives.

We applaud both Governor "Butch" C.L. Otter  for his proclamation celebrating Idaho School Choice Week and Governor Jay Inslee for proclaiming January 22-28, 2017 Washington School Choice Week!
