stacey mcfarland blog pictureMs. McFarland notes that students in second grade are bursting with energy. “Research indicates the positive effects of allowing for adaptive seating. The vestibular stimulation from the movement of ‘wiggling’ can increase cognitive function.”  As a first year teacher, she is experiencing first-hand the amount of time the average seven-year old needs to move. She hopes the adaptive seating will increase focus and attentiveness in select students.

Ms. McFarland chose teaching as a career because she believes “knowledge is power” and that all children should be given the opportunity to flourish.  “I teach to inspire a love for learning in all children with my passion for education.  I have promised to promote a safe environment, where learning cultivates an appreciation for diversity and builds confidence in the children I teach.”

Public service has been a priority to Ms. McFarland.  After her military career, she pursed the profession of education which she describes as selfless and undervalued.  She is completely satisfied knowing that she is “creating a lasting impact on my students” by “teaching, mentoring, and inspiring a future generation of American citizens.”

Xavier Charter School staff encouraged Ms. McFarland to join NWPE.  She researched NWPE and was impressed with its dedication to educators.  Ms. McFarland finds NWPE services and philosophy a good fit for her.  “NWPE provides opportunities like grants and allows for networking as well as support. It also is non-partisan, working to enhance education as a whole without bias.  This was a huge reason to be a part of this organization.

“NWPE not only supports teachers, but it also supports students through the support of teachers.  Students are directly affected when a teacher feels supported.”  “I am proud to be part of this organization.”

We are proud of YOU, Ms. McFarland, and thank you for your service to our profession, your students, and our nation!
