Documentary Filmmaker Creates Education Reform News Service

This unique news website will feature exclusive news stories and commentaries from a variety of education experts and is designed to be a sounding board for the latest advances in school choice and other reform-oriented policies not covered by other media outlets.

"Education remains the most under-reported facet of American life by the traditional news media. The coverage it does receive is often shallow and scandal-focused, with too little attention paid to the intractable systemic failures of a broken education model. Choice Media will attempt to redress this imbalance," said Bob Bowdon, founder of Choice Media in a news release.

The launch of Choice Media couldn't come at a more critical time according to Bowdon. Currently just 26% of high school seniors test proficient in math and according to the College Board, SAT reading scores fell to the lowest level on record. As we work to address these issues and achievement gaps, a news service that covers these issues exclusively is essential.

"In many cities, local public education has become a bloated bureaucracy, more focused on job protection than the interests of children, with higher spending being the only type of reform acceptable to the establishment. But, in the wake of countless high-profile failures where this has been tried, the 'money equals quality' philosophy can no longer be plausibly argued," said Bowdon as he discussed the root of our education problems.

As the founder of the service, Bowdon will certainly draw on his experience in TV and film, and make Choice Media a multi-dimensional news service, with both articles and video clips. The website will also cater to policymakers, teachers, and families interested in education with testimonials and personal stories. There is even a feature to focus the news on your state and social media platforms that will address breaking news.
