Common Core and Not So Common Resources
posted by: Cindy Omlin | July 20, 2013, 03:12 PM

The Common Core is the largest reorganization of public education since No Child Left Behind, and its burden is being placed squarely on the shoulders of teachers.  Although AAE does not endorse the standards, it recognizes that the majority of our teachers are in the process of implementing them and we are dedicated to supporting them in this effort.  As we speak to teachers about implementation, one of the things we hear time and again is that teachers do not know where to find good resources to help with the implementation.  This effort is made more difficult by the fact that there are so many resources out there that claim to be aligned with the Common Core Standards, but are not.

To that end, we’ve provided here a list of websites to start the process.  All of these websites have carefully studied the standards and are dedicated to implementing them with fidelity.  None of them have just stuck an ‘aligned’ sticker on top of old materials.  At these sites, you will find implementation guides, lesson plans, information about some of the more difficult aspects to understand about the Common Core, and tools for evaluating other resources you may come across:

Achieve

Future Ready Project (part of Achieve)

AchievetheCore

Educore

EngageNY

Pearson’s Common Core page

Learnzillion

Teaching Channel

Literacy Design Collaborative

Inside Mathematics

PARCC

Smarter Balanced

The above list is a good start for any educator and more high quality sites are being added daily.  If you know of a website that you would like to add to the list, please share it with us.
