Ms. Michelle Sperber, 7th-12th grade mathematics teacher at Genesee Jr/Sr High School in Genesee, ID, has been awarded a classroom grant for $200 by Northwest Professional Educators (NWPE). The grant will fund purchase of architectural supplies for a Geometry project in which students are asked to design a state-of-the-art high school on a certain site. The projects will be judged by a panel of architects, administrators, and school board members. Mr. Jeff Crapper and Ms. Carlie Harris, science teachers at Kennedy High School, in Mt. Angel, OR, have been awarded a classroom grant for $500 from Northwest Professional Educators (NWPE), the state’s only non-union professional teacher association. The grant will fund purchase of physical science laboratory materials to enhance student achievement. Mr. Seely plans to use the books to capture the imaginations of his students, to broaden their perspectives, and to encourage rich conversations about mathematics. Continue Reading...
Member Mention: Meridian, ID, Teacher Awarded Grant for "Bird by Bird" Program

Ms. Daisey Horner, a 10th grade biology teacher at Mountain View High School in the Meridian School District and member of Northwest Professional Educators, has been awarded a classroom grant for $500. The grant will fund the purchase of binoculars for use by biology students in the “Bird by Bird” program organized by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Partnered with the Idaho Children and Nature Network, the goal of the program is to improve student observation skills and attention spans as well as to promote a love of nature through outdoor activities.
