I'm working as hard as I possibly can to make Biology interesting and meaningful for my students. I could use many basic supplies in order to run effective and meaningful labs that will allow my students to make sense of the ideas and concepts I'm teaching. This $250 dollars would be spent on supplies to improve the educational experience within my classroom."

Eldredge was inspired to become a teacher through the example of his parents, both of whom taught, the stories they related and the joy that teaching brought to their lives.  Now he is sharing in the special joy of being an educator.  "I have recently had experiences where I too feel that joy and sense of accomplishment. I take my job very seriously and I hope to have a positive impact on many lives for years to come."  He has found that meeting the individual needs of special needs students to be especially challenging but satisfying.  "Each one has their own individual needs, so to be able to divide your energy amongst each individual students has been very difficult. My greatest satisfaction has been convincing some students who don't believe in themselves, into believing in themselves."

NWPE awards classroom grants and teacher scholarships up to $500.  The deadline for fall 2012 applications is October 31.  Teachers can apply online at NWPE's website.
