Katie Watkins Wins NWPE Grant

Congratulations to Emmett, ID, teacher Katie Watkins who was recently presented with a $300 Classroom grant from Brenda Miller, Northwest Professional Educators’ Regional Director for Outreach and Membership in Idaho.  A new teacher, Katie finds that “building a solid, engaging, and interactive curriculum for students can be especially trying when the resources are not available.”

Ms. Lisa Stover-Russell, a first grade teacher at East Elementary in Mountain Home School District, was recently awarded a $400 Classroom Grant from Northwest Professional Educators (NWPE). NWPE Regional Director Brenda Miller presented the award at a school staff meeting.  Ms. Stover-Russell will use the funds to purchase four Kindle Fire tablets to differentiate instruction while increasing student engagement.

Bill Weaver Wins NWPE Grant for Music Program

Congratulations to Mr. William Weaver, a Kindergarten through 5th grade music specialist at Nampa Idaho’s Iowa Elementary.  Bill was recently awarded a $350 Classroom Grant to purchase a book and musical instrument to enhance music instruction in the school’s self-contained special education programs.  NWPE Regional Director Brenda Miller presented the award at the all school SOAR assembly.

Pam Sutton Wins New Classroom Start Up Grant

Congratulations to Pamela Sutton, a first grade teacher at Marsing Elementary School in Marsing, ID, who was awarded one of Northwest Professional Educators (NWPE) $250 New Classroom Start-Up Grants.  Pam plans to purchase basic school supplies to help students learn organizational skills, creative expression, and confidence in writing. Brenda Miller, NWPE Regional Director, presented the award at a staff meeting.

Congratulations Matthew Wysock, NWPE Grant Winner

Congratulations to Mr. Matthew Wysock, a LaCrosse High School science teacher in LaCrosse, WA.  Mr. Wysock was recently awarded a $420 Classroom Grant from Northwest Professional Educators (NWPE), the state’s only non-union professional teacher association, to purchase a radio transmitter, tracking program and programming cables to help students track the school’s high altitude weather balloon’s altitude, velocity and position used in the science program’s near-space engineering project.

Chad Harris Awarded NWPE Grant!

Congratulations to Mr. Chad Harris, a 5th grade teacher at Blackfoot Charter Community Learning Center in Blackfoot, ID, who was recently awarded a $500 Classroom Grant from Northwest Professional Educators (NWPE), the state’s only non-union professional teacher association.  Mr. Harris will use the funds to obtain books and art supplies in order to expand the arts and humanities program in his classroom and school.

Congratulations to Ms. Wendie Muñoz, an English and U.S. Government teacher at Canyon Ridge High School in Twin Falls, ID.  Brenda Miller, NWPE Regional Director for Idaho, recently awarded a $500 grant to Wendie to fund the purchase of technology to enable students to complete digital portfolios that will help them learn through technology as well as enhance technological skills in preparation for college and career endeavors.

Congratulations to Ms. Jennifer Capell, a 3rd-4th grade teacher at Idaho Arts Charter School in Nampa, ID.  Jennifer was recently awarded a $500 Classroom Grant from Northwest Professional Educators (NWPE), the state’s only non-union professional teacher association. Ms. Brenda Miller, NWPE Regional Membership Director, presented the grant at a staff meeting. The award will fund the purchase of two Chromebooks so that students can utilize Khan Academy resources which can be tailored to their individual learning needs.

Congratulations to Ms. Megan Neary, a 4th grade teacher at Skyway Elementary School in Coeur d’Alene, ID.  Ms. Neary has been awarded a $400 Classroom Grant from Northwest Professional Educators (NWPE) to purchase hands on math materials to aid in the teaching of fractions which are receiving greater emphasis under the Idaho Common Core Standards.  The materials will help students work with fractions and understand them at a concrete level, according to Ms. Neary.  “Our state standards last year did not address fraction concepts to such a deep level of understanding so the information we are teaching is very new to our grade level. I have found that my students enjoy working with hands on materials and I feel this would help them master these concepts in a fun, meaningful way!”

Nicole Latsch, Aberdeen, ID, Awarded NWPE Grant

Congratulations to Ms. Nicole Latsch, 5th grade teacher at Aberdeen Elementary School, Aberdeen, ID, on being awarded a $330 Classroom Grant from Northwest Professional Educators (NWPE), the state’s only non-union professional teacher association. The award will fund the purchase the Rosetta Stone Spanish program to help teachers learn Spanish in order to communicate more effectively with parents and enhance student achievement in a district in which approximately 50% of the students are Hispanic with the majority of their parents having limited English.
