Congratulations to Ms. Joie Cariaga, a Choir and Spanish teacher at Skyview High School, in Nampa, ID. At a recent staff meeting, Ms. Leah Guelker, NWPE representative, presented Ms. Cariaga with a $500 Classroom Grant to purchase an iPad and accessories to help her access the school's established Wi-Fi network enabling her to instruct with the aid of technology in a seamless manner.

Anthony Haskett, Nampa, ID, Receives NWPE Grant

Congratulations to Mr. Anthony Haskett, a fourth grade teacher at Ronald Reagan Elementary in Nampa, ID.  At a recent staff meeting, Ms. Leah Guelker, NWPE representative, presented Mr. Haskett with a $460 Classroom Grant to purchase two iPods to allow students to create multimedia presentations as well as use the apps to support learning in the classroom.

Annette Lutes, NWPE Member, Wins NWPE Grant

Ms. Annette Lutes, an NWPE member and 8-12th grade special education teacher at Black Canyon High School, has been awarded a $200 classroom grant from Northwest Professional Educators.  Mrs. Brenda Miller, an NWPE representative, presented the grant at a school staff meeting.  The grant will be used to help fund an iPad be used with a student who needs it for a communication device.  Annette stated that the technology will be shared through integrated activities that include general education students and special education students within a collaborative teaching setting.

Congratulations to Mrs. Colleen Thomson, Director of Instruction at North Idaho STEM Charter Academy, and the school team of 4th, 5th, and 6th grade teachers, who have been awarded a $250 classroom grant from Northwest Professional Educators (NWPE).  The grant will be used to take 4th, 5th & 6th grade students to compete in the Idaho Tech: NASA Space Consortium Mars Rover Competition at the University of Idaho on April 26th.

Eric Lichte, NWPE Member, Receives NWPE Grant

We are proud to announce that Mr. Eric Lichte, an NWPE member and life skills teacher of 18-21 year old students at Gateway PREP in Nampa, ID, received a $250 classroom grant to build work/potting benches for the PREP Greenhouse which will serve as student workstations to prepare potting plants and manage tools.  Mr. Lichte noted, “The opportunity to work in a greenhouse not only develops skills but also provides experience for potential employment after the completion of the program. The greenhouse is an interactive classroom that not only teaches students but also teaches the community the capabilities of the students.”  Mrs. Brenda Miller presented the grant at a teacher staff meeting.

Congratulations to Katie Kirkbride, a special education and life skills teacher at Prairie View Elementary School in the Post Falls School District in Idaho.  Katie was presented with a $250 New Classroom Start-Up Grant from Northwest Professional Educators to purchase computer software to help her self-contained special education students develop pre-academic and academic skills and adaptive software to assist students with limited motor skills.  NWPE Executive Director Cindy Omlin presented the award to Ms. Kirkbride at a staff meeting on Thursday, February 28, 2013.

Northwest Professional Educators (NWPE) has awarded Mr. Scott Westermann, a high school math and science teacher in Castleford Schools, with a New Classroom Start-Up Grant for $250 to purchase student kits and lab supplies for physical science classes.  Mr. Andy Wiseman, Castleford Schools Superintendent, presented the award to Mr. Westermann at a staff meeting on Monday, February 25.

Congratulations to Mr. Dave Weidkamp, an engineering, architecture and computer-aided design software teacher at Lynden High School in Lynden, WA!  A member of Northwest Professional Educators (NWPE), Mr. Weidkamp has been awarded a $500 NWPE classroom grant to purchase “Scan and Solve” software.   Mr. Weidkamp and his students won a $10,000 grant from the Lemelson MIT Foundation to build a recumbent tricycle for a student with spina bifida as part of an initiative to assist student inventors.  The "Scan and Solve" software will help the students test the structural integrity of parts they design for the trike.

Congratulations to Ashlee Burke, a 6th grade teacher of math, science and western civilization at Ammon Elementary School in the Bonneville Joint School District.  Ms. Burke has been awarded a $250 New Classroom Start-Up Grant from Northwest Professional Educators (NWPE).  Charlotte Shearer presented the award on behalf of NWPE at a staff meeting on February 29, 2012. Ms. Burke, a first year classroom teacher, said that this NWPE grant would be an amazing help with every penny to be used to enhance her students' education.  She'll use the funds to purchase lab equipment and supplies to increase student achievement in science.   Continue Reading...

Ms. Nicole Latsch, 5th grade teacher at Aberdeen Elementary School in Aberdeen, ID, has been awarded a classroom grant for $400 by Northwest Professional Educators (NWPE), the state’s only non-union professional teacher association.  The grant will fund purchase of a vocabulary, math, and writing materials to improve student achievement.  Charlotte Shearer presented the award on behalf of Northwest Professional Educators at a school staff meeting in May.

Idaho Arts Charter School Teacher Wins NWPE Grant

Mr. David Mullins, 7th-8th grade mathematics and technology teacher at Idaho Arts Charter School in Nampa, ID, has been awarded a classroom grant for $500 by Northwest Professional Educators (NWPE), the state’s only non-union professional teacher association.  The grant will fund purchase of an Apple iPad to improve instruction and student participation.  Kim Hunter presented the award on behalf of Northwest Professional Educators at a school staff meeting in May.
