Congratulations to Ms. Catherine Goff, a Kindergarten through 6th grade resource room teacher, at Idaho Arts Charter School, in Nampa, ID.  Ms. Goff’s scholarship will help her attend the 2016 General and Special Education Conference in Seattle, WA, at which she will learn the latest brain-based theories/studies in reading, writing, and math strategies and interventions.

catherine goffShe is also looking forward to expanding her teaching repertoire in the area of the “Mindset” theory advanced by Dr. Carol Dweck by taking “Practical Evidence-Based Strategies for Increasing Student and Educator Resilience,” a course taught by Brian H. Smith, PhD.  She believes the course content will integrate well with the Mindset strategies she is using to help her struggling students persevere in the face of difficulties.

Ms. Goff believes that educators need to constantly learn and seek new ways to teach and engage their students as each and every student can be a successful learner with the right strategies.  “By going to conferences and workshops, we as educators get a chance to talk and exchange ideas with other educators not just in our school or town, but with educators from all across the United States of America who have different school structures and philosophies.”  This conference provides her with “a huge opportunity to learn new information and ideas about interventions that work with students who are struggling to learn.  I appreciate and am excited for this opportunity to learn.”

Ms. Goff has been has been a member of NWPE ever she started teaching nine years ago.  “I love having NWPE because it is not a union and it gives me the coverage that I need as a professional educator. I love getting the newsletter and reading articles from other educators.  Without NWPE I would be held to union dues and ideas that I don’t feel represent me as an individual.”

Congratulations again to Catherine Goff!  Northwest Professional Educators is proud to reward her for her dedication to becoming the most effective educator possible!  What fortunate students she serves!
