Congratulations to Mr. Anthony Haskett, a fourth grade teacher at Ronald Reagan Elementary in Nampa, ID.  At a recent staff meeting, Ms. Leah Guelker, NWPE representative, presented Mr. Haskett with a $460 Classroom Grant to purchase two iPods to allow students to create multimedia presentations as well as use the apps to support learning in the classroom.

By having students complete projects using the camera function and apps on the iPods and then uploading them to Edmodo, he will be better be able to assess all students’ understandings of concepts. Since every student would be required to explain processes, he will be better able to assess student understanding. Additionally, he expects engagement from students to increase as they are utilizing technological tools they will be using in the future.

NWPE is happy to provide Mr. Haskett with this grant to enhance student learning.  It is certainly well-deserved as he seeks ways to increase student achievement. We are proud to reward him for his hard work and creativity in the classroom.

A member of NWPE, Mr. Haskett stated that he joined NWPE because he was looking an organization that, "would provide me with liability insurance and still give me a voice. NWPE fit that description."

NWPE awards $500 teacher scholarships and classroom grants twice a year. Teachers who are new to the profession or their classroom are also eligible for $250 New Classroom Start-Up Grants.  All educators are eligible for the awards although NWPE members receive first preference.  The next application deadline for the $500 awards is March 1, 2013.  The application for the $250 New Classroom Start-Up Grants is December 31.
