Department of Education Advocates for More Excellent Teachers
posted by: Ruthie | November 19, 2013, 06:30 PM

Supported by Teacher for America and funded by business giants Microsoft and State Farm, the goal of the campaign is to draw attention to the importance of teaching as one of the highest professional callings.

Taglines like “Exceptional people gravitate toward big challenges — and there are few challenges greater than reinventing American education,” will be tweeted, advertised and publicized throughout the country.

Nina Reese, president and executive director of the National Alliance for Public Charter Schools recently wrote in a US News and World Report column, “As a former official at the U.S. Department of Education, I applaud the administration for leveraging the power of its bully pulpit to attract the ingredient most important in a child's success: a high quality teacher.”

The campaign calls on young people to take on a “higher calling.” The flagship website includes testimonials from celebrities and more practical information about how to become a teacher and where to look for a position.

The Department of Education’s push to recruit new teachers is just a small part of a nationwide paradigm shift towards elevating the teacher profession. No one is better suited to raise up the next generation of elite students than the current generation.
