Congratulations to Ms. Michelle Rasmussen, third grade teacher at Heritage Academy in Jerome, ID.  She has been awarded a $250 New Classroom Start Up Grant from Northwest Professional Educators.  The funds will help her purchase hands-on materials, such as manipulatives, for utilization with the Engage New York common core math curriculum.

michelle rassmussen clipMs. Rasmussen is inspired to go to work every day because she truly enjoys teaching students.  “I enjoy sharing new information with students as well as seeing them learn and gain the skills to become productive, young citizens in the world.  My fulfillment comes in seeing student growth academically, socially, and emotionally.  I do also believe that all students can learn and they all have the capability of acquiring new skills and applying them in a variety of situations.”

As a new teacher, Ms. Rasmussen states that it has been challenging to create a healthy balance between work and home.  She’s had to learn to make priorities.  “I am learning that I can’t do everything and that I need to pick and choose what’s most important for the current moment.  Therefore, I am a work in progress, trying to maintain good health for me so that I can be of help to all my students."

Membership in NWPE provides Ms. Rasmussen with security so she can focus on her students.  “Education is a great career to be a part of; however, education has a lot of subjective variables that can affect a teacher’s career.  Therefore, having the security of NWPE helps teachers focus on what’s most important, which is the education of children.  By having NWPE as a professional organization for teachers, it provides teachers and other school members with an assurance that someone or many people are concerned with the interests, needs, and concerns of teachers.”

Congratulations again to Ms. Rasmussen! NWPE is pleased to provide her the help and resources she needs to advance student achievement and teacher professionalism!
