Idaho Superintendent Candidates Asked Views on Teacher Choice and Professional Associations
posted by: Cindy Omlin | October 20, 2010, 06:35 PM

Candidates for Idaho Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Luna and challenger Dr. Stan Olson, former superintendent of Boise Schools, were asked the following questions regarding teacher choice and professional associations:

  1. Do you support teacher choice and equal access for professional education associations in the public schools?
  2. How have you personally advanced teacher choice in professional associations?
  3. Please explain the value of teachers having a choice of a nonunion, independent education association for professional support and protection, i.e., how does having a choice of professional organizations benefit teachers, students, and public education as a free marketplace of ideas?
  4. Do you support Idaho's right-to-work law which protects teachers from paying forced dues for union representation?
  5. Do you support the right of teachers to form local-only teacher unions for collective bargaining, i.e., local unions that are free from the cost and control of the IEA and NEA.

How would you answer the questions?
