Check out these great teacher resources from Best Practices Weekly: *Volume 2, Edition 13 – Increasing Students' Retention of Material It is always frustrating for teachers when students learn something one day and then don't remember it the next. In an article for Education Week: Teacher magazine, a veteran teacher and member of the Teacher Leaders Network discusses what science has to say about increasing retention of material. *Volume 2, Edition 14 – Building Student Leadership Building student leadership is a goal most teachers have, as it enhances student's lives both inside and outside the classroom. In an article for Education Week: Teacher, veteran teacher and author Larry Ferlazzo discusses research-based best practices for helping students realize their potential as leaders. *Volume 2, Edition 15 – Diversifying Types of Non-Fiction Text In elementary grades, the majority of non-fiction or informational text is done through read-alouds. In an article for The Reading Teacher, two California State University – Fullerton professors discuss a study of the amount and types of non-fiction text that are used during read-alouds and suggest ways to maximize that genre. *Volume 2, Edition 16 – Teaching Fractions & Percentages Fractions and percentages are often taught together, but can still be difficult concepts for students to grasp. In an article for Teaching Children Mathematics, a pair of Wayne State University instructors discuss methods for teaching fractions and percentages in a way that maximizes student mastery of both ideas.
