New Film Highlights Problems in Education

In the wake of such films as Waiting for "Superman" and The Cartel comes a new documentary series called Kids Aren't Cars. Slated for release in February, the series of mini-documentaries will showcase the negative impact organized labor has had on education.

I really enjoy seeing the thoughts of students regarding teachers, especially when they make suggestions as to what they believe will improve teachers in the classroom. When I came across this student-written article, I couldn't resist! Students Julianne Capati and Spencer Taylor made a list of mistakes which they believe teachers and students should make.
 
NEA Gives More Than $13 Million to Advocacy Groups and Partisan Politics

A recent report by the Education Intelligence Agency sheds light on the financial disclosures of the National Education Association in the 2009-2010 fiscal year. The analysis reveals that the NEA spent $13 million dollars of member dues on a wide array of left-leaning advocacy groups and charities.
 
Governors’ Tough Talk on Tenure

Last week in State of the State addresses in New Jersey, Idaho, and Florida, tough talking governors focused on education reform proposals all centered on eliminating tenure for public school teachers. With the issue of tenure making headlines lately, the support for elimination has been gaining steam nationwide.

 
Stranger than Fiction: School on MLK Day?

We've had a brutal winter on the east coast this year, causing countless snow days especially in the ill-prepared southern part of the country. A few schools that have experienced too many snow days are landing national attention for their proposed way of making up instructional time. Schools near Charlotte, North Carolina, have decided to make up for lost time by teaching on the Martin Luther King holiday, drawing criticism from the NAACP.
