Life and Legacy of Linda Brown

Last week, Linda Brown of the famous Brown v. Board of Education supreme court case, passed away at the age of 75 in Topeka, Kansas.  Brown became famous at the age of nine after her father attempted to enroll her in the all-white Sumner Elementary School near their Kansas home. Because she was African-American, her enrollment was denied and her father, Oliver Brown, filed a lawsuit against the Topeka Board of Education. Several other plaintiffs joined and the case was eventually heard by the Supreme Court of the United States.

 
Michelle Rasmussen Awarded $250 Classroom Start Up Grant

Congratulations to Ms. Michelle Rasmussen, third grade teacher at Heritage Academy in Jerome, ID.  She has been awarded a $250 New Classroom Start Up Grant from Northwest Professional Educators.  The funds will help her purchase hands-on materials, such as manipulatives, for utilization with the Engage New York common core math curriculum.

 
Valerie Mantle Awarded $250 Classroom Start Up Grant

Congratulations to Ms. Valerie Mantel, arts and ceramics teacher at Idaho Arts Charter Academy in Nampa, ID.  Ms. Mantle has been awarded a $250 New Classroom Start Up Grant from Northwest Professional Educators to help set up a new ceramics studio at the school.

Through the internet, students are able to go places that would be hard or nearly impossible to reach otherwise and they’re able to share experiences typically too remote for most people to experience. One of the great ways to do this is through the use of livecams that allow students to share an experience in real time as it’s happening.
