Mr. Jeff Crapper and Ms. Carlie Harris, science teachers at Kennedy High School, in Mt. Angel, OR, have been awarded a classroom grant for $500 from Northwest Professional Educators (NWPE), the state’s only non-union professional teacher association.  The grant will fund purchase of physical science laboratory materials to enhance student achievement.  Principal Troy Stoops presented the award on behalf of Northwest Professional Educators at a school staff meeting in May.

“Northwest Professional Educators is happy to provide Mr. Crapper and Ms. Harris this grant to enhance student learning,” said Cindy Omlin, Executive Director of NWPE.  “NWPE is proud to reward educators for their hard work and creativity in the classroom.  This award is certainly well-deserved as these dedicated teachers seek ways to increase student achievement.”

NWPE awards $500 teacher scholarships and classroom grants twice a year. Teachers who are new to the profession or their classroom are also eligible for $250 New Classroom Start-Up Grants.  All educators are eligible for the awards although NWPE members receive first preference.  The next application deadline is October 31, 2011.

Northwest Professional Educators is a nonprofit, non-union, professional educators’ organization focused on students as educators’ highest priority and improving the professionalism of education.

NWPE welcomes educators of any education entity including teachers, administrators and support staff and provides members with liability insurance, legal services, professional development resources, opportunities for teacher scholarships and classroom grants, newsletters, and a voice on education issues.  Membership dues are $16.50 a month.
