Ms. Michelle Sperber, 7th-12th grade mathematics teacher at Genesee Jr/Sr High School in Genesee, ID, has been awarded a classroom grant for $200 by Northwest Professional Educators (NWPE).  The grant will fund purchase of architectural supplies for a Geometry project in which students are asked to design a state-of-the-art high school on a certain site.  The projects will be judged by a panel of architects, administrators, and school board members.  Genesee Jr./Sr. High School Principal Kelly Caldwell presented the award on behalf of Northwest Professional Educators at a school staff meeting in May.

“Northwest Professional Educators is happy to provide Ms. Sperber this grant to enhance student learning,” said Cindy Omlin, Executive Director of NWPE.  “NWPE is proud to reward educators for their hard work and creativity in the classroom.  Ms. Sperber’s award is certainly well-deserved as she seeks ways to increase student achievement.”

NWPE awards $500 teacher scholarships and classroom grants twice a year. Teachers who are new to the profession or their classroom are also eligible for $250 New Classroom Start-Up Grants.  All educators are eligible for the awards although NWPE members receive first preference.  The next application deadline is October 31, 2011.
